Testimonials:

BIRTH DOULA CARE: Sarah was a wonderful doula! From the time that we first met her, she was very sweet and caring. Her knowledge of how to prepare was very reassuring and she was never timid. She always made time to answer questions and set us at ease. When it was time for the baby to come, she set up her portable birthing tub and set in for a long night. She did great guiding me to care for my wife and stepping in when I needed a break. I would definitely recommend her to anyone preparing for a home birth! —Randy, father of 3.

POSTPARTUM DOULA CARE: Sarah saved our family in the first few months after the birth of our second child. She provided us with the tools (& the sleep!) to more confidently parent two under 18 months. Not only did she help our newborn, Sophie, learn to sleep better, she was eager to problem solve all infant challenges with me and my husband and introduced us to the resources we needed to better enjoy this difficult phase. I am also grateful for the levity and perspective she brought as I navigated the next phase of my motherhood journey. —Maureen, mother of 2.

PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION: I wanted to make sure I got a full experience using both my encapsulated placenta pills and my placenta salve before leaving a formal review. While I’m now 5 weeks postpartum, I’m amazed at how much my body responded even within 10 mins of taking my very first pill. The energy rush I got was amazing. I felt like “me” again - to the point where it was noticeable when I forgot to take a pill. It was so startling that my postpartum doula commented how amazed she was at how alert and mobile I was just days after giving birth to my son. I was even able to climb stairs relatively easily even though I kept mobility to a minimum. My body also responded incredibly well. I’ve never had a problem with breast milk production even though I did have first time mom moments where I faked myself out (even though my son went through a ton of diapers, gained weight, and was super alert). I also think my body just knew what to do- Meaning, my healing process seemed expedited. I shed a ton of inches (many women still look a little pregnant for a few months, I looked a little pregnant for a couple of weeks). I also stopped bleeding heavily after 10ish days. Not mad. The placenta salve is what I chose to use as a nipple balm and a tummy moisturizer. No complaints whatsoever, and a little goes a long way. I have darker skin and my hyperpigmentation on my belly area is down significantly after 5 weeks of regular use. If I had to put a percentage on it, I would say 80%. And while my first time mommy nipples are still sore, I love that it’s all natural and something I don’t have to wipe off before feeding my son. Thanks for providing awesome services and products, Sarah! I wish more women knew about encapsulated placenta pills and placenta salves because it’s beyond worth the investment.—Deneen, first time mother.

Hi there!  I’m Sarah.  Working with families and their babies is my passion and my calling.  Being a doula is some of the most rewarding and fun work that I’ve ever done! I love to bring my own sense of calm and delight to pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I have mellow nature that tends to put people at ease so they can also enjoy this incredible time.

Becoming parents is BIG, and there is so much information out there. I’m here to help you sift through it to find what you need, keep a sense of humor about it, and let the rest go. I strive to include partners in the conversation, preparation, and process of creating birth and postpartum plans, supporting the birthing parent during birth and beyond. I truly believe having the right kind of gentle, accepting support during this time can bring more peace to families and the whole of society.

Background

I have been educating myself about birth and babies since I was pregnant with my first child in 1999.  I was naturally an 'attachment parent' and started making and selling infant slings. As a new mother I was trained as an Infant Massage and Communication instructor, deepening my interest and commitment to healthy families.

Having the blessing of a doula at the births of my children convinced me that becoming a doula was the path for me, and in 2006, I attended the DONA approved Sacred Doula Training at Breitenbush Hotsprings.  This in-depth training that honors the rite of passage that IS birth, fueled my passion even more and since that time I have been helping families as a birth and postpartum doula. I love this work and feel incredibly privileged to have the opportunity to help birthing parents, their partners and their families have positive birth experiences and ease in the postpartum period. It truly enhances my life.  I continue to educate myself about birth, reproductive health and babies, and always find this work interesting and rewarding.

I have found that being a doula does not limit me to helping ONLY with birth and babies, but rather it is a part of who I am. I use the same reverence and skills to help people through all kinds of life transitions and challenges. Using reiki, other energetic practices and essential oils enhances the healing and help I can provide exponentially.

In 2018, in preparation to return to doula work, I completed Advanced Doula Trainings, with Carrie Kenner of Big Belly Services, including: Breastfeeding Resources, how to use a TENS system and Rebozo to aid labor and birth, Placenta Encapsulation, and Journey through the Pelvis, and Supporting Families through Grief. With all of this new information under my belt I am re-energized to work with birthing families and whomever may need my help.

I am the mother of five growing children and wife to a wiley wizard. I live in Beaverton Oregon, in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
